Around 800 refugees from Syria, Iraq and Afganistan in Berlin are lodged since November 2015 in the former headquarters of the Stasi (Lichtenberg), the secret police of the Cold War East German government. A building that once inspired ‚fear‘ is being transformed into a place of ‚hope‘.
Surekha documented the building’s history and present conditions through its architecture, by capturing the corridors, curious fragments of the building and also by interacting with children involved in makting art.
