Artists in Residence: Berlin and Sineu
Marijo Ribas and Berit Myrebøe completed this year’s exchange program with the new cooperation partner espai sant Marc on Mallorca.
The exhibition Artists in Residence: Berlin and Sineu showed the results of their work in Lichtenberg and Sineu from November 19, 2024 to January 19, 2025
Due to her own family history, Marijo Ribas dealt with labor migration, often described here in Germany as guest workers. In Lichtenberg, she came across the former Vietnamese contract workers: with the change in the economic model and the closure of many factories, some Vietnamese returned to their homeland, while others decided to stay in Berlin. There is still a large community and important meeting places are the Pagoda Temple and the Dong Xuan Center.
Berit Myrebøe used the existing workshop at espai sant Marc with its possibilities to use different printing processes for her work. The main focus is on the different backgrounds and the various techniques for processing the printed image, allowing light or a hidden motif to shine through the paper.
