Stéphanie Cailleau und Pia Linz

Artists in Residence: Berlin and Die

Stéphanie Cailleau and Pia Linz, the participants of the exchange program, showed their works created in Berlin and Die in the Museum Lounge from September 5 to November 17, 2024.

Since 2018, there has been a cooperation between Lichtenberg Studios and DIEresidenz, a house near Die, France, where curator Conny Becker lives with her family. The house is only 10 minutes by bike from Die and yet is completely secluded in the “dark” forest. A granny apartment and a studio are available for the residents.

Stéphanie Cailleau spent a month in the Lichtenberg Studios in 2023 conducting artistic research into a wasteland, the Cuban Claytonia and a sprayer. Her botanical observations were thwarted by the neighborhood’s graffiti, to which she responded with poetic collages on the walls of Lichtenberg.

Pia Linz is known for her site-specific drawings. During her month-long stay at the DIEresidenz, she tried out a different, more spontaneous medium – watercolor painting on paper. Taking a less conceptual approach, the core of her work remains the same: the theme is the perception of the world that surrounds the artist and with which she is in direct contact while working. With her watercolor easel, she explores the landscape around the Chénos district and condenses the captivating natural panoramas into relatively small formats.
