In January, I had a stipend from Lichtenberg Studios. During a visit to the Berlin Stasi Museum (ASTAK e.V.) in Lichtenberg, I came across tapestries from the GDR with political themes. I was very interested in the images on the tapestries and decided to use them in collages.
The back becomes the front side here. The silicon material and paints imitate the carpet structure, on the one hand, but are also determined by chance and are thus not as precisely controlled as the carpets that were industrially manufactured in East Germany. They look like carpets that have gone as slightly awry and they even have a certain organic quality. Long irregular silicon threads hang on the front and alternate with shorter relief structures.
