As a scholarship holder of the
Lichtenberg Studio I first bring my artistic rules and experiences
with me. How to apply these to the Lichtenberg district? It has
always been my motivation to extract thoughts and insights from the
visual world that I could not think before. Which cannot be
experienced through language or numbers. Just as I normally encounter
an exhibition space, I have encountered Lichtenberg.
At first
I understood the district as space. On foot and by bicycle. A number
of construction sites could not be overlooked. Architectural
occurrences, new or old grown. An unfamiliar quarry. Objects
scattered around the room. Partly suitable, most of it unsuitable.
Everyday material, seen objects. How far do the objects reach to be
exhibited?
It turned out that some concrete casting was
possible. Castings that only find their form in Lichtenberg, in the
district itself. Directly on site, outside. Just as the district
visibly fluctuates between old and new, the casts capture currently
defined situations, they will change. Snapshots.
I was able to
find some metal sheets. Forgotten parts, exposed to the weather and
time. Not to little noticed, but still there. On site. Forgotten
junk, forgotten functions? Possibilities. Or, by changing the
context, still suitable for exhibition? Telling a story about
yourself. For a long time they stayed in Lichtenberg and long ago
gave up their function.
